About us

A literacy initiative built by New York students, for New York neighborhoods.

ReadNY is a volunteer team of thirteen working across Queens to foster a greater interest in reading, strengthen comprehension through interactive lessons and book donations, and teach useful English to immigrant New Yorkers.

Our goal

One clear outcome.

Children

Increase reading levels and basic reading comprehension

Kids read a story aloud, then answer questions about what they read. Repetition and discussion build the comprehension muscle that silent reading alone doesn't.

Communities

Rooted in Flushing and Jamaica.

Our chapters are split across the two areas we know best. Volunteers run sessions, outreach, and stands close to home, which keeps the work steady and the relationships real.

Flushing / Fresh Meadows

Library sessions, outreach stands, and school partnerships in northeast Queens.

Jamaica

Reading circles, book drives, and community events in southeast Queens.

How we sustain it

Small budget, wide reach.

ReadNY is funded by fundraisers and sponsorships from local businesses and organizations. Our finance team tracks every expense, and our outreach team handles cold emails and in-person asks at libraries and schools.
